What to Expect During an Initial Consultation
Patients can expect to have a thorough exam where we ask questions about your medical history and symptoms, in order to create a treatment plan that addresses your needs. Chiropractic adjustments are popular for pain relief of lower back pain, neck pain, sciatica, and more. Here we have gone into further detail about what the first visit with a chiropractor Annapolis, MD families trust may be like:
Symptoms and Patient History
To prepare for your consultation, we will ask you to complete forms so we understand your symptoms and condition better. Questions that are commonly asked include: where did the pain start, where do you feel the pain, is the pain sharp/dull/burning, does it come and go, when did the pain start, and what makes it worse or better? We may inquire about pre-existing medical conditions or injuries as a way to decide whether chiropractics is right for you and whether diagnostics need to be performed before treatment can begin.
The Physical Exam
After getting your symptoms and patient history, we will do an exam that may include a blood pressure test, pulse rate, respiration rate, reflexes, posture, and other general tests. Our tests may be used to assess your muscle tone, muscle strength, range of motion, and neurological integrity.
Other Diagnostics Before Treatment
If we deem it necessary for the benefit of your health, we may suggest having you get other diagnostics, such as an x-ray or MRI scan. These can be helpful in diagnosing a recent physical trauma, spondyloarthritis, and spinal deformities (such as scoliosis). X-rays can be useful inviewing the bones, but damage to soft tissue will not be able to be seen. If soft tissue is suspected, an MRI scan may be recommended so we can properly address a disc problem, nerve compression, or torn muscle.
